I love the idea of Mental Wellness, and I'm astounded it's not a more common notion in society.
First, I love it because it makes such perfect and logical sense. We not only take care of our bodies, we pay each part special attention. There are dermatologists, cardiologists, and podiatrists. There are ophthalmologists and optometrists. I get my teeth professionally cleaned twice a year!
But for some reason, our mind's health is an afterthought (see what I did there :P).
Second, I love the actual words themselves. I would argue Mental Health is a more accurate term, but since it's got all that baggage in our vernacular, let's alter the paradigm. Mental Wellness is upkeep, it's maintenance. It's an essential and interconnected piece of our total health, not a separate silo we attend to only in an emergency. Eat a healthy meal. Take a walk. Treat your mind.
My goal and hope is that we can make Mental Wellness a ubiquitous idea and imperative.
