There are no (physiological) accidents. The benefits of laughter are profound. Laughter boosts immunity, increases endorphins, reduces pain, increases blood flow, lowers stress, gives our inner organs a workout, boosts mood and confidence, increases social connection, promotes heart health, and all around makes us feel good. We ought to laugh daily, but how many of us--especially professionals in therapeutic roles--make laughter a practice?
Perhaps this inner dialog between a person and his brain, recently shared with me, will give you a chuckle!
ME: can I get some motivation?
ME: then can I have a good mood, at least?
ME: OK, so what can I get?
BRAIN: [checks notes] how about you get to overthink the way you said hello to your neighbor this morning--it was weird!
ME: wait, no
BRAIN: enjoy your day
