Community consists of relationships and social networks that provide friendship, love, hope and support. Through community groups such as faith-based gatherings, community programs and recreational activities, clients can experience acceptance and belonging (samhsa.gov/recovery).

Community can provide:
The development of personal and social connections to decrease isolation and increase feelings of acceptance.
A chance for clients to interact with positive role models who have similar experiences, which helps to reduce stigma and promote hope.
An opportunity to practice an array of life skills, such as setting appropriate boundaries using assertive communication.
